Yutang Sang worked as an advanced news editor in the Xinjiang Radio and Television Bureau before retiring. He writes novels, essays, editorials, and jokes. In My Small Town, he recalls his hometown Shuangqiao in Zhangjiagang, Suzhou City, Jiangsu Province in China. He documents its prosperity, its tragedies, its colorful residents, historical events, and crucial institutions. His memoir is a beautiful combination of factual recollection and whimsical poetry drawing on both Yutang’s memory as well as his imagination.
